QualyGridS Symposium 2017 on European Grid Services Markets

6 July 2000

Contribution of sustainable technologies to flexibility in the transmission and distribution system: what to expect from water electrolyzers and co.

The way how the electrical energy market is organized in Europe is changing, opening opportunities for more flexible generation and consumption. New sustainable technologies for storage and conversion of energy such as e.g. water electrolysers, fuel cells, batteries, thermal and compressed air storage systems meet the needs of the future transmission and distribution grid. Flexibility, virtual power plant, dynamic load management, direct marketing, control reserves, grid services are few of the key words addressing this challenge.

During the symposium international experts highlight the topics around the grid services market, with emphasis on pooling of unconventional equipment. It focuses on the market logic, business model experience, regulations, grid balancing, future trends, long term business plans. In the afternoon a short workshop setting will enable participants in sharing experiences and learning of peers. The symposium aims at reaching an understanding of the differences in the European grid service markets and at pinpointing prospects of flexible emerging technologies to contribute to grid services. It addresses scouts and managers from the European electricity industry, administration bodies and researchers interested in commercial aspects of grid services.

The symposium finds its continuation on the following day (July 6) in a workshop considering technical requirements for water electrolysers contributing to grid services.
